Musician and president of the Uganda National Musicians Federation, Eddy Kenzo, has explained why Gen Salim Saleh expelled musicians from his Gulu property. It seems that musicians had frequently been visiting the General’s residence over the last few years primarily to seek financial aid.
In a note sent last week to Kenzo, Saleh instructed that all creative individuals should be managed by the Big Talent CEO and the federation.
The OWC coordinator also noted that artists and promoters were disrupting his work in the region.
Many have interpreted this as the General and the government growing weary of musicians’ constant requests for monetary help. However, Kenzo disagreed, stating that the General made this decision after establishing proper channels for musicians to navigate.
The Stamina singer mentioned that most musicians visiting Gulu primarily had ideas and were not simply there to ask for money, even though some were indeed begging. But now that the General has successfully organized structures for these artists to utilize to receive assistance, there is no longer a justification for bothering him.
Furthermore, Kenzo remarked that those who disrespect him and believe he is unqualified to assist them are only harming themselves.
“Gen Saleh did not expel musicians due to their begging. He simply wants them to follow the correct procedures since he helped set up these structures. The reason he used to let them in without restriction was that the systems weren’t in place, but now that they are available, he sees no reason for them not to be utilized.”
“For those who feel I’m unfit to assist them, that’s their issue, but as for me, I’m here to support everyone, and anyone in need of my services is welcome to approach me,” stated Kenzo.
