President Museveni’s deputy press secretary Faruk Kirunda has lost his wife in a fatal road crash.
Gladys Aliyinza, who has been eyeing Luuka Woman parliamentary seat, was killed in the Busoga sub-region district when her vehicle was involved in a head-on collision with a sugarcane truck.
In a post on X, formerly Twitter, Mr Kirunda announced “with a very heavy heart” the untimely death of his wife.
“It’s a heavy blow on our young family and pray to Allah to see us through,” he said.
“I thank all of you for the outpouring of sympathy and support so far extended to us.”
The Isuzu double cabin pickup overturned several times, killing Ms Aliyinza and her political assistant Mr Yusuf Biita on the spot.
Ms Aliyinza’s driver – whose identity has not yet been established, was taken to Musana Health Centre in Kaliro Town in critical condition.
There was no detail of the status of the occupants of the Tata truck registration UAU 073G that was involved in the fatal collision.
The truck that was loaded with sugarcane also overturned.
Mr Kirunda has just returned from Mecca for Holy Pilgrimage.
