Famous local comedian Allan Mujuni, widely recognized by his stage name Amooti Omubalanguzi, has shared his final conversation with the late comedian Messe Bontwe. Messe passed away from a heart attack on December 12 in the United States.
This tragic event occurred just before Amooti’s concert which marked his 25 years in comedy. While discussing this event, Amooti expressed that he was initially engulfed in shock and disbelief when he received the news. He even reacted harshly towards the individuals who informed him at first.
However, when his close friends and Messe’s wife reached out to him, he began to accept the reality. He mentioned that he and the former Amarula Family member had been in regular contact. Messe would often joke about how he intended to surprise him during the concert.
Amooti shared that he speculated whether Messe was planning to gift him a car or a piece of land. Sadly, it appears that the surprise he referred to was his passing.
Amooti remarked that he contemplated canceling the concert, but was encouraged by friends to continue and pay tribute to his departed friend.
“I was completely taken aback when I received the news. In fact, I lashed out at three people who called to tell me he had died. But once I got calls from reliable sources, I accepted it. Messe and I had been in communication and he even mentioned that he would surprise me on the day of the concer.
“I kept pondering whether he was going to get me a new car or some land, but it seems this was the surprise. At first, I considered delaying the concert, but my friends and fans motivated me to move forward with it,” he stated.
